The purpose of the study was to explore the employees' perceptions of leadership styles for the government of American Samoa (ASG) that are appropriate and effective for implementing the daily government operations. The qualitative study explored perceptions, beliefs, and experience of the effective and appropriate leadership styles that the government of American Samoa could adopt for its operations. The study also explored perceptions of which leadership style that is appropriated and more effective for decision-making regarding rules, policies, and procedures as well as hiring processes, promotions, retirement, termination, probation, contract hire, and short-term and long-term decision-making. The researcher has selected a qualitative methodology for this study. The design of the study was phenomenology where population for the study was the employees of the government of American Samoa. Sample size was 10 participants. The data collection methods were interviews. The data analysis method was sorting, coding, and categorizing. The themes of the study were the leadership styles for the government of American Samoa based on the perceptions of the employees. These themes of leadership styles were applicable for the government operations, implementing of rules, policies and procedures for hiring, promotions, retirement, termination, probation, and contracts, short-term and long-term decision-making as well as transitioning of new governor and leaders for the government in every four years.
