In preparing students for 21st century academic and professional success, integrated Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) instructional practices are changing the landscape of contemporary classroom instruction. Teacher perceptions of self-efficacy in teaching integrated STEM content were measured. Students' perceptions of self-efficacy of STEM learning were also gauged. The inclusion of a variety of expository text formats within integrated STEM lessons is emerging to guide students toward new methods of disciplinary literacy. STEM lessons are culturally responsive, creating equitable learning experiences for girls, ethnic minorities, and disadvantaged students. As teachers become increasingly confident in integrated STEM instruction, they also enhance their skillfulness with culturally responsive teaching, allowing all students to develop cognitive aspects beneficial beyond the focus of the content.
