This retrospective cohort study explores the effect of STEM integrated instruction on student academic outcomes in elementary reading and mathematics. Teachers and students in a Middle Tennessee suburban school district participated in this study to analyze these relationships. The two participating schools were similar in demographics and were Title I status based on school poverty level. One of the participating schools sought STEM designation through the state of Tennessee in 2019 and the other did not. Student reading and math scores were compared from two academic years, before and after STEM designation, and between schools. Student growth and performance differences were nominal between the control and experimental groups.
