The number of nonprofit organizations in the United States significantly increased over the last twenty years. The study of spiritual leadership has also increased during the same time period. Spiritual leadership has been a predictor of job satisfaction and organizational commitment in various industries. Faith-based organizations need leaders who are committed to their organizations and exhibit satisfaction in their work in order to maintain stability and success for the organization. The current study measured self-identified spiritual leadership behaviors of executive leaders at faith-based nonprofit organizations to determine if spiritual leadership qualities were predictors of job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Through stepwise multiple regression analysis, it was discovered that when taken together, the five spiritual leadership dimensions of hope/faith, altruistic love, vision, meaning/calling, and membership were predictors of both job satisfaction and organizational commitment among faith-based leaders. Additionally, the individual spiritual leadership dimension of membership was seen as a positive predictor of both affective and normative commitment, as well as the job satisfaction variables of supervision. The presence of job satisfaction and organizational commitment among faith-based leaders affirmed previous research on the expression of spirituality at work. The current study added to the area of research for leaders at faith-based organizations. Insight gained from the current study could contribute to leadership styles and future emphases placed on hiring or developing leaders within similar organizations.
