The purpose of the study was to determine the degree to which perceived psychological empowerment mediated the relationship between servant leadership and engagement of generation Z followers in post-Christian religious contexts in Southwest England. The sample consisted of 148 British generation Z followers aged 18-25 years old within churches, summer camps, parachurch organizations, and non-profit religious institutions. Quantitative data analysis was performed using Pearson's r correlation coefficients and multiple linear regression. The results indicated significant correlational relationships between servant leadership, psychological empowerment, and engagement. Three of the five servant leadership factors-standing back, stewardship, and authenticity-predicted follower engagement. Humility and empowerment did not predict follower engagement in the model. Using a composite score for servant leadership, however, resulted in stronger correlations and significant prediction of psychological empowerment and engagement from the overall measure of servant leadership. Psychological empowerment partially mediated 44% of the relationship between servant leadership and follower engagement when using a servant leadership composite score. The inability of leader humility to predict generation Z empowerment or engagement may indicate a generational divide in the manner by which older adult leaders offer feedback or criticism towards generation Z followers within organizations.
