Hypertension is the leading risk factor for cardiovascular and renal diseases. Even when the blood pressure is slightly elevated, it leads to increased risk of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Approximately 30% of adults in the United States are affected by hypertension, and the risk increases with age. After the age of 55 years the remaining lifetime risk of hypertension amounts to 90%. African American has demonstrated strong incidence and prevalence of hypertension and the resultant higher risk of cardiovascular disease including left ventricular hypertrophy and heart failure compared to Whites, Hispanics or Asian. The estimated cost of hypertension for the year 2010 in U.S. was $76.6 billion causing an estimated 9.4 million deaths in 2010, becoming one of the leading causes of global burden of diseases. Hypertension is a prominent risk factor for global mortality and morbidity, and men and women differ in their prevalence and awareness of this disease. So, we need a serious cost-effective method to, fight and combat this disease. Moderate physical exercises, and education on lifestyle modification is crucial and has been proven to do just that. It is especially important that we understand the pathophysiology of the system so to be able and better predict and manipulate the behavior of the system to the benefit of our patients.
