The purpose of this case study was to capture how culturally relevant teaching practices are used among multilingual learners in one Midwestern, suburban school district. The problem was how to attain equity for English learners (ELs) who were not receiving native language instruction. The perspectives of parents, teachers, and administrators were included and the data sources featured surveys, classroom observations, and interviews. The results revealed differing viewpoints among stakeholders regarding the use of students' native language(s) in the classroom. Teachers demonstrated knowledge of their students and effective communication techniques. Parents expressed a desire to share more about their culture and language with teachers. Teachers expressed higher confidence and willingness than administrators to implement culturally relevant teaching practices. The implications for professional practice include increased transparency regarding program models, delivery of EL support, and language(s) of instruction. Future research is needed regarding the long-term growth and achievement of ELs when program models change annually and how the use of native language(s) for instruction or connections impacts learning.
