Hearing loss is a low incidence disability. The incidence decreases even more when a child has a hearing loss and a comorbid disability. The number of students who are DWD continues to increase in classrooms around the country. These students demonstrate many different skills and abilities and teachers of the deaf express frustration in their lack of knowledge of teaching students with DWD. There are no evidence-based strategies for students with hearing loss and disability. Teachers of the deaf are often stuck with little preparedness to teach this population of students and don't have resources that can help them learn. Some evidence-based practices from other disability fields used with students with hearing loss and disabilities include wait time, signing, visuals, environmental arrangement, positive reinforcement, and video modeling. Several other interventions show some potential for students who are DWD but need more research are environmental arrangement, visual schedules, visual structure, and work systems. This dissertation included a survey that investigated a teacher's experience, education, preparedness, knowledge, and use of environmental arrangement, visual schedules, visual structures, and work systems. Data analysis utilized the spearman's rho correlations to identify potential correlations between years of experience, courses taken, professional development taken, and different disability categories. It was found that teachers of the deaf are not very prepared to teach this population of students and they are looking for more supports and strategies to teach these students in their classroom. Teacher preparation programs should incorporate more classes in teaching students who are DWD. For current teachers, there can be more professional development opportunities focusing on structured teaching strategies and students who are DWD for teachers of the deaf.
