The problem that was addressed in this study is that it is not well known how counterterrorism organizations share information to deny how terrorist groups use social media. This research is vital because the internet and social media have decreased the time it takes to radicalize and recruit people, from years to a matter of months. The purpose of this qualitative exploratory research design was to investigate how counterterrorism organizations deny terrorist groups' utilization of social media to facilitate recruiting and radicalization. The researcher purposefully selected eight participants for interviews. The data was analyzed and identified five major themes: information sharing between counterterror organizations, terrorist use of social media, the transition to the dark web, the importance of researchers on the ground, and the use and importance of the counter narrative. The results of this study will support future counterterrorism efforts of federal, private sector, and academic institutions. These organizations continue to determine the most efficient ways to counter terrorist groups' ability to use social media programs to recruit new members, radicalize individuals, and spread propaganda globally.
