This book combines the wisdom in ancient Hindu texts on dharma, with the modern research on management to identify a set of principles that can aid business organizations in sustaining profitability. As businesses look to act more responsibly in response to the negative impact they have had on people, societies, and the environment, researchers are highlighting the changes that businesses must incorporate, with a particular focus on ethics and values. This book argues that a rapidly changing environment, a solid foundation to guide the organization, is critical. Dharma, a set of principles that holds things together or sustains life, offers such a foundation. Managing by Dharma provides business researchers with a framework to seamlessly evaluate and integrate the ethical and financial goals of business organizations. Paresh Mishra is Associate Professor of Organizational Leadership at Purdue University Fort Wayne, USA. His research focuses on personal and organizational ethics, spiritual perspectives of leadership, corporate social responsibility, workplace emotions, resilience, motivation, and productivity. His publications on these topics have appeared in some of the flagship journals of the Academy of Management, American Psychological Association, Academy of Human Resource Development, and the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology. Suresh Kalagnanam is Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. His research interests include performance measurement, resource allocation, corporate social responsibility, social value, and management control systems. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences and has published several scholarly works including research papers, technical reports, textbooks, and book chapters.
