Non-profit sport organizations exist to deliver benefits through sport to the community in which they function. Often these organizations contain specific programs designed to aid in the development of youth participants through sport participation. These programs, known as sport- based youth development programs, are integral aspects of the non-profit sport organizations in which they exist. Evaluating the organizational effectiveness of non-profit sport organizations is an intricate and complicated task. This research examined the importance of not only understanding the interworking of the organization, but also the perceived impact of the sport- based youth development programs within the organization. The perceived organizational effectiveness was analyzed from the perspective of the employees and volunteers who work in the non-profit sport organizations.Interviews were conducted with 14 non-profit sport organization personnel. The personnel worked with 10 different non-profit sport organizations. The interviewees held various positions in the organizations including executive board members, executive directors, interns, and volunteers. For the purposes of this research, the non-profit organizations all shared the target population of Native American youth. The lifestyle, culture and societal influences on this target population all served as context for the decisions and structures of the non-profit sport organizations. Much of the existing research done in the related field focuses on either the structure and design of organizations, or on the perceived outcomes of programs, but rarely on both. Using aspects of the multidimensional and integrated model of nonprofit organizational effectiveness (MIMNOE), a research design was implemented to address both the structure and the outcomes to examine the effectiveness of the organization as a whole. Further, facets of the developmental assets framework was utilized to specifically collect data on perceived effectiveness of the sport-based youth development programs.
