Virtual work is becoming more widespread, and the number of people working as telecommuters continues to grow. Technologies continue to be designed to support telecommuting by enabling employees to interact with other team members. The purpose of this study was to obtain information about how Generation X and Y describe telecommuting with its associated technologies. This will assist employers in setting up and staffing telecommuting positions more effectively. The theoretical foundation of this study rested on Social Exchange Theory (SET) because telecommuting relies on social interaction using information technology (IT) tools to collaborate with coworkers. The following research questions guided this study: How do Generation Y telecommuters describe telecommuting experience with its associated technology? How do Generation X telecommuters describe telecommuting experience with its associated technology? The phenomenon of interest in this study was telecommuters' experience with associated telecommuting technology. The sources of data included semi-structured interviews and survey data from 20 telecommuters from two generational groups (X and Y). This captured broad information about their telecommuting experience and perceptions with the ICT used. The methodology used was a descriptive study approach along with the descriptive coding approach for coding analysis. The study found six themes that together showed both generational groups agree that ICT is what helps telecommuting be a possibility, and the experience of telecommuting with its associated technology were positive experiences for the whole group of participants. Keywords: ICT, telecommuting, productivity, efficiency, technology, Generation X, Generation Y, experience.
