The present study examines the relationships of language, attention, working memory, intelligence, and rote learning. The relationship between attention and working memory is established, however the relationship of language or intelligence is not as established. Understanding learning and the impact of attention, working memory, language, and intelligence has benefits from a neuropsychological and clinical standpoint.Common neuropsychological assessments were utilized to measure these constructs. The Serial Digit Learning, nine-digit sequence (SDL9), Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale-III (WAIS-III), and subtest of the Multilingual Aphasia Examination (MAE) were utilized. SDL9 provided rote learning data, WAIS-III for intelligence, attention, and working memory, and Subtests Visual Naming (VN), Sentence Repetition (SR), Token Test (Token), and Controlled Oral Word Association (COWAT) of the MAE provided information for spoken language. Two samples of veterans, 125 and 107, were included in the study. Results indicated mastery is related with verbal skills, crystallized intelligence, fluency, and working memory. It was demonstrated that learning was related with fluid intelligence and repetition skills. The initial trials were related to simple attention, fluency, and does not require comprehension. Understanding these components provide additional interpretative data.
