The Internet has become a means to disseminate disinformation and biased Information effectively to users recently, although it was initially designed to break down the authority of Information concentrated on a small number of people. Moreover, gender and racial imbalance in user participation in online platforms such as Wiki and social media commenting section accelerate and diversify the channels in which biased Information can be acquired. Disinformation is often referred to as fake news, and existing studies are presenting ways to evaluate the source, highlighting the importance of assessing a piece of Information's authenticity. However, what is more important than this is that content can be weaponized. Even if the Information contains few facts, misleading content can become hostile toward social minorities and provoke racial and gender issues such as xenophobia, racism, or misogyny. Besides, people accept Information emotionally, and the contents are controlled by algorithms that determine the type of content we see and prioritize Information based on our emotional responses, it might impact users to accept weaponized Information faster. Social media and information sharing platforms are inserting various devices to maintain their information authenticity. Sociologists, designers, and organizations also make different efforts on it; still, it is not enough that the biggest problem is that content can be weaponized. The study will highlight several regional case studies and explore how design can play a role as a device to instill and alert users to form a healthier online environment in various ways as a communication designer; the environment includes all races, gender, and ages, which adequately manages disinformation and biased perception while assuring freedom.
