This study sought to outline the considerations for implementing an after-school indoor rock climbing club as an extracurricular activity during an era of COVID-19. The purpose of this research was to create an after-school climbing club for students at Salida High School. Additionally, this study gathered information to either support or reject the continuation of this club beyond the study timeline. Using action research as a methodology, this study utilized participant observation, survey, and interview to gather data about this continuation or discontinuation of the club. The process to create and run this club is also discussed, including approval from various agencies, logistical considerations, adaptations, and COVID-19 specific considerations. This project used the approval and input from two school administrators, two climbing gym owners, and one climbing gym manager. Eleven students participated in seven climbing sessions. This research found various sub-themes that fall under the process to create the club, running climbing sessions, and COVID-19 specifics. Sub-themes include forming strong relationships, creating a sense of understanding and patience, creating a relaxed atmosphere, proper methods of communication, following rules and regulations, and identifying relevant attitudes. This study concludes with a strong recommendation for future research in this area in order to increase the importance placed on extracurricular activities within public schools.
