This dissertation examines the Fourth Gospel to determine if any liturgical material is present within the texts. The first chapter reviews previous scholarly interaction relevant to this topic. The second assesses various proposed criteria and creates an inventory for evaluation of possible liturgical texts. The third through fifth chapters apply this inventory to passages in the Gospel. The sixth chapter then analyzes the theology of the found liturgical material and the seventh summarizes the findings, explains implications of the research, and offers ideas for further research based on the conclusion that liturgical material is embedded in the Gospel.
