This thesis examines how young adult authors use Twitter to communicate and promote their works to their target audiences. It also explores whether these authors' tweets seem to rely on parasocial-interaction theory. Case studies were conducted on the Twitter usage of five New York Times best-selling YA authors during the two weeks before and two weeks after the release of one of their novels. The studies suggest parasocial interaction does play a role in YA authors' Twitter communication given that audience members often engaged with authors' tweets despite a lack of engagement reciprocated by authors.
