When students are prepared to write at the college level, they are better equipped to enter college and take credit-bearing courses, persist to graduation, and ultimately earn a college degree. Research has shown, though, many high school graduates who are entering college struggle to succeed at college-level writing. The purpose of this study was to explore the perceptions of high school English teachers, college teachers, and college students regarding the effectiveness of high school writing instruction to prepare students for college-level writing success. The constructivist theory is the theoretical framework which guided the study. The research questions were designed to explore the perceptions of high school English teachers, college teachers, and college students regarding the effectiveness of high school writing instruction to prepare students for college-level writing. Perceptual data was collected through surveys and interviews. Discussion of the findings would benefit high school English and college teachers who desire to improve writing instruction which successfully prepares students for college-level writing.
