Counselors and leaders use prosocial behaviors to motivate others to accomplish goals. Modern leadership theory, specifically transformational leadership, describes leader behaviors that elicit follower volunteerism and high productivity. Counseling literature refers to similar behaviors that counselors master to guide clients to achieve wellness goals. CACREP accredits counseling graduate programs, outlining necessary skills that mirror those described in transformational leadership literature. This quantitative study utilized the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ-5) to assess counselors' self-perceived leadership skills, comparing CACREP graduate counselors with non-CACREP graduates.
