A qualitative research study with a generic design was found to be an effective method to answer the research question: "how do entry-level professional counselors describe their experience developing and implementing multicultural and social justice advocacy competencies in professional practice"? First-hand accounts from the entry-level counselors on their experience would provide relevant feedback. A purposive sampling method was used to obtain an information rich population from across the country. The data was collected using semistructured interviews of the participants of the study. Ten participants took part in the study, all 10 participants of the study had experience working with diverse populations in the northeast, southwest, southeast, and northwest areas of the country. Six participants were men and four were women. Two participants identified as Latino, two identified as Caucasian or White, and six identified as African American or Black. The data was analyzed using Braun and Clarke's inductive thematic analysis process. This process allowed the data collected to be grouped and coded into themes and subthemes relevant to the research question. There were four themes revealed in the study: 1.lack of competence and consistency, 2.competency is self-defined by the counselor3.motivation to push, and 4.know self and know all.
