The research topic for this study was women's experiences of intimacy when their husbands use social media during interpersonal time. Research has focused on how online interactions and constant communication impact the individual who engages in these activities. However, no research has examined how this phenomenon can influence intimate relationships by examining the perspective of the partner who is not part of the communication. This researcher sought to answer the question, "How do women experience intimacy when their spouses regularly use social network sites during interpersonal time?" This generic qualitative inquiry methodology allowed for the participants to use their own words, which were analyzed using thematic inductive analysis. The sample consisted of 11 married women between the ages of 25 and 40, who had been married for at least one year, were in a heterosexual marriage, and had separate social media accounts from their husbands. The results of the study provided new evidence that there is a negative impact on intimacy for women when their husbands use social media during interpersonal time. Themes introduced by the women during their interviews illustrated that usage by husband caused a disruption in intimacy which created a need for establishing boundaries or rules regarding the amount or timing of usage for the couple.
