The purpose of this study was to explore higher education instructor skills needed to deliver a flipped learning classroom. The problem identified was the absence of research from the instructor's perspective on skills needed to deliver the new teaching strategy of flipped learning. The research question asked was: what are the higher education instructor skills needed to deliver a flipped learning classroom. The exploratory qualitative study used semi-structured interviews to gain information from nine participants with experience using a flipped learning approach at least three times and who also had experience teaching using an expert driven traditional instructional strategy. The data collected from the participant experiences was analyzed using a three tiered thematic approach. The themes that emerged were that the skills needed to deliver a flipped learning classroom were facilitation skills, communication skills, engagement skills, technology skills, and the skill of relinquishing control of the learning to the students. The key findings suggest that the developing topic of the flipped learning classroom in higher education can lead to deeper learning provided the higher education faculty are prepared to examine and develop skills needed to deliver a flipped learning experience.
