The current study focuses on the construction of a trauma-informed manualized training for law enforcement sexual assault response. The teaching material within this manual is gathered from an extensive literature review of advocacy for sexual assault survivors, other law enforcement trainings, and professional exposure throughout my doctoral training. The intended audience is geared toward police officers within two years of graduating from the training academy. This manual consists of three training components, entailing: (1) introduction/history of sexual assaults; (2) common aftermath experiences; and (3) intervention techniques. Each component is covered in a three-hour session and occurs over the course of three weeks, one session per week. The goal is for this manual to be made available and taught by licensed psychologists who specialize in sexual trauma. This manualized training was not tested for its efficacy but was instead reviewed and evaluated by individuals in the field, including law enforcement as well as mental health providers, for its content and format as a manualized training modality and potential efficacy. Although the study initially aimed for six participants, seven participants reviewed the manual and provided feedback via a completed survey. The participants' feedback was mostly in support of the training manual's content and overall format. The manual had particular strengths, such as interviewing techniques, active participation, and organization. Constructive feedback by reviewers was considered and suggestions for future utilization of the manual are provided.
