This proposal investigates the ways in which architecture can manipulate a person's experience of time to become a generator of place attachment. Memories, patterns of behavior, and cyclical events, all of which are temporal experiences that architecture can have great agency over, significantly contribute to the cultivation of place attachment. Part 1 proposes that architecture is not defined by its physical or spatial presence, but by the way it is temporally experienced. Part 2 introduces the primary theoretical framework in which this proposition operates. Part 3 is a record of the gathering and analyzing of data about the site, programs, and codes, all done in preparation for Part 4. Finally, Part 4 is a design investigation that uses temporal experiences as a way to generate architecture that stimulates a culturally significant site. The project is a mixed-use building located in Downtown Lafayette that houses a children's museum, a laundromat, an art gallery, and apartments.
