Throughout history, Native American people faced constant rejection of their cultural values through assimilation. Education and boarding school were the main tools utilized to strip Native American people of their cultural identities. It can be argued that this continues today in higher education. Using Transculturation and Peoplehood as a lens, this paper explores the importance for Native American students to maintain their cultural values as a source of strength in navigating higher education. This study collected data from 14 undergraduates and 10 graduate students with the use of sharing circles. Their stories shed light on college aspirations, cultural values, student experiences, struggles and goals. The findings from this demonstrate that undergraduate students have not gone through the process of transculturation. Compared to graduate students, they have learned that their cultural values are incorporated into all parts of their student experience. These findings further demonstrate the importance of Native American cultural values and student success in higher education. Therefore, the implications seek to make the institution more inclusive of Native American cultural values.
