This phenomenological study was designed to gain insight into the connections between mindful art programming and support of individuals' core capacities and individual differences at Kamilleon, an artistic immersion for twice exceptional adults. A major goal of the program is to understand and convert deficits into purposeful patterns with the goal of enriching internal representations of self as well as represented experiences. In all aspects of the program this was addressed by exploring the affective, social, and personal factors that have affected critical phases of development, and may have fragmented developmental capacities of self-regulation, engagement, intentionality, emotional ideas, and sense of self. Core developmental capacities of relating, communicating, reasoning/thinking, and self-awareness were documented for all participants as they progress through the program. The developmental, individual difference, relationship-based model of intervention (DIR), developed by Stanley Greenspan and Serena Wieder (Greenspan & Wieder, 1997), was used to identify the functional emotional developmental capacities (FEDCs) for interdisciplinary assessment and intervention. Qualitative/phenomenological methodology was employed to describe and better understand the experiences of three participants in the Kamilleon program. Results of the study indicate that the program had positive outcomes for its three study participants in several domains including physical, emotional, cognitive, and creative natures. What was common among the three participants was that through this experience each grew in personal understanding and artistic ability. A sympathetic resonance panel of fine art curators assessed the works of art and found relevancy and significance at a professional level through external audit. Additional research is needed to further investigate community offerings of gifted and talented support for the twice exceptional.
