The current study aimed to assess the role of resiliency as a mediator in the development of eating disorders following the exposure to adverse childhood experiences. The 58 undergraduate students completed the survey including the ACE questionnaire (to measure adverse childhood experiences), the EDE-Q (to measure severity of eating disorder symptomatology), and the Resilience Scale (to measure level of resilience). Three separate hypotheses were the focus of attention for this study. The first hypothesis was that the severity of adverse childhood experiences will predict the severity of eating disorders in adulthood. The second hypothesis was that the severity of adverse childhood experiences will predict the level of resilience in adulthood. The third and final hypothesis was that resilience will mediate the relationship between adverse childhood experiences and eating disorders in adulthood. Adverse childhood experiences and resilience were not found to be significant predictors of eating disorder symptomatology. However, through exploratory analyses, adverse childhood experiences were found to be significantly predictive of body mass index. Additionally, body mass index was found to be predictive of eating disorder symptomatology and resilience. Resilience was not found to be a mediator between body mass index and eating disorder symptomatology.
