Globally, public and private sectors have committed in achieving United Nations Sustainable Development (SD) Millennium Development Goals (MDG) by 2015, which ultimately proved to be an unsuccessful attempt. Consequently, the United Nations launched the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in September 2015 to tackle the urgent environmental, political, and economic challenges facing our world as a continuation of the unfulfilled MDG of 2000. Lack of progression in achieving the UNs' SDGs within the private sector remains a problem that requires further investigation using I-O Psychology's tools and techniques in hopes to a successful SDG by 2030. This study investigated concerns in adopting SD and addressed the primary issue regarding the noticeable knowledge gaps in the field of SD in the workplace. In this qualitative research study, a modified-Delphi design was applied using 15 Subject Matter Experts (SME) in the field of SD and human resource management. The SMEs identified the top 5 out of 11 factors and challenges hindering knowledge building and implementing SD in the workplace. Lack of finance was the number one factor hindering SD knowledge building and resistance to change was the number one challenge in implementing SD in the workplace. These factors and challenges may only affect the adoption of SD in the workplace in a specific area, industry, or demographics. Based on the findings of this study, further investigation is recommended to assess the impact of each of the identified factors and challenges individually to improve the adoption of sustainable development in the workplace.
