The purpose of this qualitative narrative inquiry study was to explore female coaches' experiences of underrepresentation and marginalization within college sports. The study was grounded by the critical feminist theory, which focuses on the inequities in relationships of power. Two research questions focused on how women coaches experienced coaching, underrepresentation, and marginalization within college sports. A purposeful sampling strategy was used to recruit seven female college coaches from Southern California. The source of data was semi-structured interviews. The interviews were conducted in-person and via Skype. The data were analyzed using Braun and Clark's six-step thematic analysis procedure. A codebook was developed, and saturation was not reached by the final interview. Six themes emerged: Female college coaches have difficulty establishing professional relationships with male coaches and athletic directors; Women were used as a token female coach and had to prove themselves; Female college coaches experienced racial bias; Institutional practices and work environment marginalize women; Good Ol' Boys Club and lack of female mentorship into college coaching; and, Attrition of female coaches: Why some women leave college coaching. Female college coaches experienced sexism, racism, conscious and unconscious discrimination, and isolation in their jobs. Practical implications suggest the importance of improving existing programs and policies and developing new strategies related to increasing the number of female coaches and improving their experience when coaching at the college level, which could be implement by proving diversity training for all college coaches and administrators.
