The research conducted in this study aimed to determine the existence of burnout syndrome among NAIA football coaches in the Mid-States Football Association and Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. The research aimed to establish that NAIA football coaches possess a variety of responsibilities as part of their jobs. Based on these multiple responsibilities, and the utilization of the research of Maslach, Schaufeli, and Leiter (2001), quantitative data was obtained to determine whether the coaches had experienced burnout syndrome or any of the elements that can lead to burnout: exhaustion, cynicism, or inefficacy. An examination of quantitative data was made to determine if elements of burnout are the result of additional responsibilities a coach possesses. The sources of the element of burnout a coach experienced were examined to be either a coach's position, an added coaching responsibility, or an added institutional responsibility. Finally, the research sought to collect qualitative data regarding whether NAIA coaches were able to provide remedy solutions regarding how to overcome the various elements that contribute to burnout and burnout syndrome. The study was able to conclude that of 27 responding coaches, all possessed additional responsibilities that were outside their normal coaching responsibility. Additionally, the study was able to conclude that probability exists that the cause of burnout among NAIA coaches was the result of additional coaching responsibilities. Finally, the research conducted was able to conclude that remedies exist for coaches to overcome the elements of burnout.
