Being a healthcare worker (HCW) during unprecedented and challenging circumstances such as the recent COVID-19 pandemic can contribute to unusually higher stress levels, anxiety, and burnout. HCWs are not only at risk for viral contamination, but they are also at risk for long- lasting adverse physiological and psychological effects (Robbins, 2020). In this project, HCWs participated in a four-week email distribution, which included helpful tips to ease work-related stress and anxiety. Participants learned about various Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction mediation (MBSR) techniques. For data capture, participants recorded their psychological status using Cohen's ten-item Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) (Cohen et al., 1983), and Brown and Ryan's Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS) (Brown & Ryan, 2003) to gauge their stress perception. The PSS-10 asks questions about one's feelings and thoughts during the last month. The MAAS instrument is a 15-item scale designed to assess open or receptive awareness of and attention to what is taking place in the present. The percentage of participants who reported physiological symptoms related to stress and anxiety went from 36% pre-intervention to 10% post-intervention. Although there were reductions in perceived stress among all healthcare workers, male participants had markedly lower perceived stress levels after the program. This project found that a brief online Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) intervention is a useful tool, easily accessible, and available worldwide.
