This quantitative exploratory study surveyed social work educators in higher education to (a) identify how their interpersonal styles impact their approach to teaching undergraduate and graduate-level social work students, (b) identify where participants' scores most often placed on the BASIS-A scales, (c) identify the dominant teaching perspective, and (d) identify if the number of years teaching and the number of years practicing has an impact on a social work educator's teaching perspective. Participants completed The Basic Adlerian Scale for Interpersonal Success-Adult Inventory (BASIS-A) and the Teaching Perspective Inventory (TPI). The research conducted suggests that there is a relationship among certain interpersonal styles and certain teaching perspectives. The results also concluded that participants most often placed on the middle range of the Belonging-Social Interest scale on the BASIS-A Inventory and the most commonly assessed dominant teaching perspective was Apprenticeship. However, years of teaching and years of practice did not result in a statistical difference with the teaching perspectives Apprenticeship and Social Reform. Being equipped with an understanding of a person's lifestyle on their practice of teaching could be useful for the following reasons: (a) as a self-report to increase self-awareness, (b) an approach utilized by colleges and universities, (c) an approach to connect mentors to educators, (d) an approach to inform trainings, and (e) as an approach to include in the evaluation process of the educator. This research study seeks to enhance teacher effectiveness, and improve student outcomes by providing supports through a holistic approach.
