Understanding why sexual assault occurs is closely related with how society understands consent. Utilizing the Sexual Consent Scale-Revised (SCS-R), the study will look at the variations in attitudes about sexual consent held by individuals based on their gender, sexual orientation/gender identity, college experience, and political affiliation. Independent Samples T-Tests, One-Way ANOVA, and OLS Regression were conducted utilizing the SCS-R. The results of the study found that female students in the sample may not feel consent is necessary in various scenarios involving sexual activity but do hold more positive feelings about consent when compared to male students with a marginal significant effect. LGBTQI+ students may hold more positive feelings about consent, but believe consent is less necessary in a variety of scenarios but without any statistical significance. First-year college students hold more positive feelings about consent when compared to other students. This understanding about consent needs to be talked about and debated as people may think about consent differently, but it seems all have a general understanding that without consent there is assault.
