The purpose of this systemic review of the literature is to explore the effectiveness of family-focused community-based interventions in reducing recidivism in juvenile offenders. This review examined 16 quantitative studies from the United States, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, published within the last 10 years. The results of this review indicated that Multisystemic Therapy (MST), Functional Family Therapy (FFT), and Parenting with Love and Limits (PLL) are effective interventions in reducing recidivism in juvenile offenders. Overall, 11 studies found small effect sizes in reducing recidivism, one study found moderate effect sizes, and three studies found large effect sizes. The study with the largest effect size for reducing recidivism in juvenile offenders used PLL as the intervention. Finally, the review revealed that family-focused community-based interventions were more effective in reducing recidivism in juvenile offenders than treatment as usual (TAU).
