The purpose of this project was to locate a potential funding source and write a grant for a program to support informal caregivers of individuals with dementia through educating them on ways to implement music therapy in home settings. An extensive literature review identified the needs of caregivers and care recipients. The Archstone Foundation was selected as the best fit to fund this program. The program aims to offer education on the practical uses of music therapy in activities of daily living as an alternative, non-pharmacological approach to addressing symptoms of dementia and resulting challenges faced by caregivers. It aims to reduce caregiver burden levels and promote the ability of care recipients to age in place by equipping caregivers with knowledge and community support. The program's goals are to promote communication, movement, and memory recall among people with dementia, as well as meaningful connections between caregivers and their loved ones.
