The purpose of this project was to locate a potential funding source and to write a grant for a school-based program targeting the reduction of depression in high school-aged adolescents at Ellen Ochoa Prep Academy in Pico Rivera, California. Given the significant impacts of depression on adolescents' immediate and long-term physical health, psychological health, and social interactions, addressing adolescent depression is critical. School-based programs provide an optimal environment for prevention and intervention. The goal of this program is to reduce adolescent depression through screening for depression, providing individual and group therapy, facilitating trainings to caregivers, and increasing community awareness. The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation was chosen as the funding source for the proposed project because of their commitment to education and health and human services. The submission and/or funding of the grant was not a requirement for completion of this project. Implications for social work practice are discussed.
