Nurses play a vital role in the healthcare industry. It is important to understand factors that shape their involvement and job satisfaction, leading to enhanced patient care and retention. It was not known whether there is a relationship between involvement, commitment, productivity, and job satisfaction in nurses in acute care hospital settings. The purpose of the correlational study was to examine the relationship between involvement, commitment, productivity, and job satisfaction in nurses in an acute care hospital setting in Northern California. Kanter's structural empowerment theory served as the theoretical foundation. The research questions examined the relationship of involvement, commitment, and productivity to job satisfaction. The Career Attitude and Strategies Inventory and the Inventory for Understanding Adult Career Questionnaire were administered to a purposeful sample (N=74) of working adults aged 18-65 at the acute care hospital setting in Northern California. Pearson correlation analysis revealed no significant correlation between involvement and job satisfaction (r (72) = .05, p = .701) or between commitment and satisfaction (r(72) = -.27, p = .020). Productivity was significantly associated with job satisfaction (r(72) = .47, p < .001) . Findings indicate as nurses' productivity increases, so does their satisfaction. Practical implications include strategies to enhance acute care nurses' productivity. Further research is recommended on the relationship between commitment and job satisfaction in acute care nurses to confirm the finding and to help understand the mechanisms that may lead to a positive relationship between the two factors.
