This study explored the relationship between educators' leadership styles and student academic performance on the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) when controlling for gender, age, ethnicity, years of experience, and level of education of the educator. A convenience sample was used made up of third through fifth grade teachers from 25 elementary schools in a school district in South Texas. A total of 145 teachers participated in the study by self-rating their leadership styles as measured by the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ-5X). Student's academic performance rating was obtained based on results from the STAAR Reading and Mathematics assessments. Participants completed a demographic survey to analyze control variables such as gender, age, ethnicity, level of education and years of experience of the educator. A multiple regression was conducted to determine if leadership predicted academic performance, while controlling for demographic variables. The results indicated that the more years of experience a teacher had, the higher the academic performance of the students. With limited studies on how educators' leadership styles impact student academic performance, there is a need to further research on what leadership has impacted student academic performance. Not many studies look at the direct impact of leadership styles of the educator through the use of the Full Range Leadership Model and its relationship to student academic performance.
