Background: Aging adults suffer from depression due to age-related issues. Objective: The objective of the study is to improve depression symptoms in aging adults by proposing a treatment plan using the cognitive behavior techniques of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and the antidepressant qualities of physical exercise.Participants and methods: Participants were recruited from Los Angeles County Psychological Association, adjuncts from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, mental health workers, and licensed psychologists. Potential participants were qualified through a survey questionnaire inquiry of their knowledge of the aging population, knowledge of cognitive behavior therapy/REBT, benefits of physical exercise in mental health and length of time in the field. Qualifying participants received a research packet consistent of excerpts of supporting literature, proposed treatment plan and evaluation questionnaire. Each participant reviewed the research packet and responded to the questions listed in the evaluation questionnaire. Additional spacing was provided for opinions and feedback. Results: Participants agreed the proposed treatment plan could effectively treat depression in aging adults. Modifications requested for the treatment plan were to reduce the length of therapy sessions, increase rapport building, develop a check-in system with clients and allow clients to choose the order of activities to implore personal investment.
