An Exegesis of Luke 15:11-32 From a Jewish Perspective The purpose of this thesis is to exegete Luke 15:11-32 from a Jewish perspective. Since the commonly agreed upon notion that the audience of the parable in this passage was Jewish, it is essential to know what the original audience may have perceived when they heard Jesus present this parable. Due to the time gap between now and when the parable was originally spoken, and then written, a systematic methodology will reveal what the original, Jewish audience might have understood. Chapter 1 discusses the preliminary information about the background and setting of the parable. Chapter 2 exegetes Luke 15:11-19, pertaining to the younger son leaving. Chapter 3 completes the exegesis of the passage by covering 15:20-32, where that son returns home. Chapter 4 concludes the thesis by analyzing what the original, Jewish audience may have perceived when they heard this parable.
