Bullying has become a nationwide problem with significant short-term as well as long-term effects for victims. There are four types of bullying-physical bullying, verbal bullying, cyberbullying, and relational bullying. Relational bullying poses a significant threat due to its subtle, covert nature and harmful effects. Relational aggression appears to be more common among female adolescents and can pose significant implications, given the importance placed on interpersonal relationships. Female adolescents can feel vulnerable, helpless, and experience a range of dysregulating emotions in response to a bullying attack. In the last 30 years there has been an increase in the research on mindfulness practice in alleviating anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. This dissertation offers an adapted version of an empirically supported Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) protocol. The adapted version is specific to female adolescents coping with being victims of bullying and offers tools to help female adolescents feel more in control of their emotions when experiencing or anticipating a bullying attack. This program manual will help mental health clinicians offer skills to help adolescents feel more empowered. Additionally, implementation of the manual will be helpful for future research on increasing female adolescents' sense of tolerance and control in distressing bullying scenarios.
