Education in the 21st century has evolved, and today's American student is achieving academic heights never seen before in public education. With graduation rates reaching all-time highs, it is appalling to see the disparity in data reflecting high school completion. Current data indicates a decrease of African American male learners completing high school diplomacy programs in comparison to their counterparts. As public educators in America, it is our responsibility to foster an environment that is conducive for all students to learn. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the educational experiences of African American male students enrolled in an urban public charter high school. The study examined how these African American male pupils perceived the effectiveness of pedagogical strategies implemented in their high school. The researcher used purposeful sampling methods to select ten high school students to interview for this study. The findings of this study indicated that African American male high school students' preferred pedagogical learning styles that are more hands-on, visual, and incorporates fewer teacher lectures. Also, African American males noted that teachers should provide more activities and assignments using sports and games. African American males in this study said that teachers need to use more technological devices in classroom activities such as oculars, smart phones, and computer tablets. The findings for research question two found that black male students revealed that some African American males impregnating their girlfriends have caused them to drop out of high school before earning a diploma. Also, some African American males faced family and personal struggles. The struggles noted by the black male were: lack of parental involvement in their education, parents working too much, lack of parent empathy, and the growing temptation for black males to join a gang while still in high school.
