There has been little research conducted on the hiring of minority leaders as athletic directors at Division I institutions within the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The reason for such little research evolves around the small number of minorities that hold athletic director positions at NCAA Division I institutions. There has been little advancement in this field and a vague amount of minority athletic directors continues to be a major issue for the NCAA. Therefore, the problem in this qualitative research study is the lack of minority athletic directors in NCAA Division I institutions. The purpose was to explore the perceptions and observations of the hiring practices at NCAA Division I institutions through Human Resource Administrators. A multiple case study was considered appropriate due to its benefits deriving from more than one case. Twelve Human Resource Administrators at an NCAA Division I institution were asked for their consent to be interviewed to gain insight into why minority leaders are not considered at a higher rate for athletic director positions. Interviewing continued until saturation was reached.
