The problem addressed by this research is why some student-athletes (SA) in revenue sports (football and men's basketball players) continue to engage in at-risk behaviors, causing injury to themselves and others despite student-athlete support services (SASS). The purpose of this qualitative case study examines recent NCAA research and best practice models to identify how D-I SASS program administrators and staff interact collaboratively and recognize at-risk SAs. The guiding conceptual framework for the study includes emerging adulthood, social learning, and social cognitive theories. A single-instrument case study methodology incorporating multiple sources of information is used to advance the theme of the analysis of the NCAA GOALS study. Evaluation through the case study design illustrates possible inconsistencies between current NCAA research against the effectiveness of an NCAA D-I SASS program. Interviews with former and current support service professionals identifies the interactions between academic, career, and life skills counselors to understand better various issues associated with SA wellbeing and mental health. A single-instrument case study design was used to obtain these data via semi-structured interviews with current and former support service administrators at the D-level. After the interviews, NVivo 12 Pro was used to analyze the open-ended responses to the interview questions. The results indicated a misalignment of the SASS program with current or previous NCAA research Implications were professionals need to collaborate and align with NCAA research to offer holistic services that could be both life-changing and life-threatening. Recommendations for practice are for athletic programs to align with NCAA research to offer holistic services. Recommendations for future research include initiating a conference-wide or a group of multiple institutions' efforts to investigate support services program effectiveness.
