The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to assess the relationship between high school coaches' self-perceived efficacy and the corresponding athletes' perceptions of their coach's effectiveness in diverse sports practiced in high schools in Phoenix, Arizona. The theoretical framework for this study included Bandura's Self-Efficacy Theory and Horn's Working Model of Coaching Effectiveness. Four research questions addressed the bivariate relationships (1) between participants' scores on the scales of the two instruments, (2 & 3) between the scale of one instrument and the subscales of the other instrument, and (4) between all subscales of one instrument and all subscales of the other instrument. The study was conducted with a convenience sample of 87 head coaches matched with a convenience sample of 309 student-athletes corresponding to those coaches. The participants completed online surveys that included demographic questions, the CES II-HST questionnaire for coaches, and the APCCS II-HST for athletes. The analysis involved four Kendall's tau-b correlations. The results showed no statistically significant bivariate relationships. The correlation coefficients ranged from τb = -0.074, p = 0.351 to τb = 0.010, p = 0.898. The findings may be used to plan for additional research during the middle of the school year, with team sports.
