A majority of organizations experience challenges created by today's business environment, which makes them rely on teams and teamwork to manage projects to meet competitive market demands. Scholars have demonstrated that for project teams to be effective, they need high levels of emotional intelligence. However, emotional intelligence remains a difficult talent to find. To close this gap, scholars recommend that organizations consider with interest how to develop the emotional intelligence of their project teams' members. The purpose of this study is, therefore, to generate a framework for training and coaching as interventions that organizations can use to develop project team members' emotional intelligence to improve team performance. Literature was reviewed extensively on the concept and influence of emotional intelligence on team performance, how and with what tools it can be assessed, how training and coaching can be used to develop it in teams, and what tools, techniques, and best practices can facilitate the development process. Findings from literature related to the mentioned aspects have been used to formulate a solution that organizations can use to develop the emotional intelligence skills and competencies of their project teams. The effective implementation of the solution requires that the organization adopts and supports the solution, expand its resources to include human, financial, and material, ensure effective training and coaching, and monitoring and control using surveys, questionnaires, and formal assessment tools.
