This project aimed to provide a group intervention to increase the self-esteem of 5th and 8th grade students. Not only are these children in close transition to a new school (5th graders are in close transition to junior high, and 8th graders are in close transition to high school), they are also undergoing developmental, social, and pubertal changes during this time. The project included a review of the relevant literature regarding self-esteem. The after-school group was designed to increase the self-esteem among 5th and 8th graders through the utilization of art, and providing and receiving support through the mentor and mentee relationship between group members.
