This research study analyzes essential resources to help children who have been diagnosed with a mental health disability. This data is from a qualitative study, which included participants from an inner-city school district. The study involved high counselors who shared their concerns regarding the lack of mental health resources available for students in their school district. The results from the survey used in the focus group indicated that counselors have many students who are diagnosed with various mental health disorders; examples are ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, etc. The survey showed that multiple students present many of these disorders in a single school, even though there are not mental health resources available for all schools. Further research should explore other ways to provide mental health services to students and families in urban communities.
