In recent years, there has not been an abundance of research regarding play-based STEM activities in the early childhood classroom. While the incorporation of STEM education has been more prevalent in the upper elementary and middle school levels, there is little to no information about the effect that STEM education has on the younger grades, especially in terms of collabo- ration skills among students in the classroom. This study analyzed the relationship between play- based STEM activities at the pre-kindergarten level and collaboration among students in the classroom. Throughout the study, students were assessed on collaborative skills through a series of lessons, play-based activities, and an engineering design challenge based around the concept of weather, a curriculum topic that many pre-kindergarten classrooms cover. A majority of the students who participated in this study received higher scores on the post-test that assessed col- laborative skills in the classroom. The results of this study showed that there was indeed a posi- tive relationship between play-based STEM learning and collaboration in the classroom.
