The purpose of this master's project is to propose a campus-based support group to provide LGBTQ+ undergraduate students with a space to connect with their community and engage in critical reflection on their intersecting identities. The proposed counseling group intends to use gender and sexuality identity development models in conjunction with narrative theory in order to foster a supportive environment built on shared solidarity between LGBTQ+ students. The identity models provide a framework that describes the process of LGBTQ+ individuals' coming to understand the ways they are different, accepting that difference, and becoming a part of their respective communities. The proposed group will normalize these experiences, while externalizing the stigma that LGBTQ+ students may have internalized about their own gender and sexual identities.
